School is over after the twins’ Moving Up ceremony on April 13 but before we could even plan out our activities for the summer, McDonald’s sent us an invitation to join them as they treat selected children in Cebu for a glimpse of the “Kiddie Crew Workshop: Explorer Edition!”
And so on a Sunday, March 31, on my day off (hooray!), Ate Joy and I packed two bags and brought the mutants to McDonald’s North Reclamation Area branch for an afternoon of play and adventure.
There is a big difference in maturity and behavior between four and five years old. Last year, the twins DID NOT participate in any of the activities at all. This year, they participated in all the activities, with a few moments of hesitation in between, which required a little bit of nudging and prodding to get them on the floor to dance or to sit down to make cheeseburgers.
Senior product manager Ashley Santillan said the Kiddie Crew Workshop has been around for 27 years; that means more than two decades of living the tradition of making “learning an adventure for the kids and giving them a unique and memorable experience.”
This year’s theme is about exploration, which Ashley said is geared toward turning children into budding adventurers as they “set out to complete fun and educational tasks.” These tasks included making cheese burgers and serving customers from behind the front counter or the drive-thru window.
There will be dancing, singing and more activities which are designed for children to have a memorable summer experience.
The workshop is designed for children six to 12 years old. The twins are still five years old and did pretty well in this workshop. My three-year-old Jeff Jr. was in this workshop too but he is too young for this. If you have a younger child like my JJ, let him enjoy the playground instead because he will probably not stay put to do all the activities (although he did make his own cheeseburger with a lot of encouragement from my end).
The workshop is designed to be play-based so the children learn in an atmosphere of fun. There is emphasis on leaning good values, building confidence, meeting new friends and discovering new talents.
Nick and Toni took my orders when they did behind-the-counter duties. How they smiled when the manager taught them which buttons to punch depending on the customer’s order!
Judging from their reactions, the most exciting part of the afternoon was practicing the Ronald Dance and later, dancing with Ronald himself. Antoinette was an enthusiastic dancer, who followed all the steps. Nicholas was a bit shy but later on told me that “I am starting to like him,” in reference to Ronald.
Registration for the Kiddie Crew Workshop is now going on. The workshop will officially start on April 8 and they have various workshop schedules to fit the parents or the guardians’ work schedule.
The weekday workshop runs for five days with a two-hour session per day while the weekend workshop lasts for three hours per session.
Happy memories, fun activities, new friends and loads of goods await your children for P695 for the weekday workshop, and P595 for the weekend workshop. The registration fee includes uniforms, workshop materials and daily meals.
Those joining the Kiddie Crew Workshop will also have free membership for the Kiddie Crew Club, which offers exciting and exclusive perks all-year round.
I always say that children learn from experience and from the company and guidance of their parents. Let them experience this adventure and be sure to be there to observe them. After each session, ask them what they like about it or what did they do. It gets them talking most of the time, which is a building block for a healthy parent-child relationship.
