Let me introduce you to our little place here in Guangzhou, southern China.
We live at The Garden Hotel in a two-bedroom apartment- one is the master’s bedroom and the other, the twins’ bedroom.
We have a third room, which is near the kitchen, which Jeff arranged as our home office. I just moved in and my desk looks like this.
We have a living room with a reading nook, where we currently have some of Jeff’s comic books and magazine subscriptions. I am thinking of converting this into an area where we can put children’s books.
Adjacent to the living room is our dining area, where Jeff and I have been sharing meals for more than a year (on and off that is because we live in two different countries).
The twins and I will be moving here by March and I have been thinking how to baby proof the entire area. My brain cells have been racing here and there thinking how to convert this place to a reading haven without overdoing it.
You get what I mean? I am a diehard book fan and bookworm but I also don’t want to impose it to the kids. I am thinking of “planting” books and toys (that teach) in strategic areas that the twins will see and pick up. Would you know any websites I can look up and check? Let me know please…
From our place on the 19th floor, these are pretty much what you see.
What I like about the area though is its proximity to an open air market, a grocery store, some restaurants and shops.
I arrived yesterday (January 22) and I was only able to bring a couple of books, most of which are for the twins.
Oh, I do have some for myself.
But essentially that’s it.
Weather is pretty good here in Guangzhou. Sun is out but it’s cool. We went out to buy some winter stuff for the trip to France and Germany over the weekend and it was lovely. Thankfully, no smog!
I was rereading Amy Tan’s The Valley of Amazement while waiting for the adobo to be cooked before I worked on this entry.
Jeff is working on some buttered noodles and steamed broccoli. The kitchen is a mess but who cares? We have food so life is good.
Tomorrow, I am dragging Jeff to scour the city for some bookshops. He said he found one somewhere in Tianhe District. Wherever that is. I will probably force him to go to Baiyun Mountain again just for the sake of it.
I am updating this weblog using my Samsung Galaxy Note and it’s pretty convenient. Thank God for my friend, Jessie who pressured me to get the this more than a year ago.
Well, adobo is cooked. Jeff is crazy hungry and I have this room (twins’ room where all of my stuffs are temporarily parked) to tidy up.
I will say goodbye for now. Hope things are fine back home (Cebu, Philippines). I miss the twins but it’s right to be with Jeff before the ultimate move come March.
Leaving for Paris tomorrow! Update you from there.
