Last Monday, I watched Sesame Street on Netflix with my son, Nicholas. We saw an episode where members of the Cookie Connoisseurs Club visited Sesame Street for a cookie tasting session. The Hooper’s Store was filled with all kinds of cookies and Alan was making sure that everything is set before the club members arrive. Of course, Cookie Monster joined the scene and went gaga over all those cookies.
I’m writing this because: (1) October is also National Cookie Month; and (2) I want to be a member of that Cookie Connoisseurs Club!
Can anyone tell me how I can apply to be a member of a legitimate cookie organization where members are entitled to a free taste of all kinds of cookies?!
In late July when I was taking a blogging class at the Flathead Valley Community College, my teacher told us that October is National Cookie Month and that she was part of a cookie celebration (correct me if I’m wrong Kathie) a year ago where she got together with food bloggers and they baked different types of cookies. My classmates and I immediately volunteered to be cookie taste testers this year but my teacher said they’re not doing it this year. I was pretty stumped.
But I survived that cookie heartbreak and found refuge in chocolate chip cookies baked so lovingly my husband. They are best paired with cold milk and best consumed on a lazy afternoon while my children are watching Sesame Street and videos of children singing nursery rhymes. (Oh, by the way, we banned most Disney movies these days.)
A few weeks ago, I posted my review of a book on the website of Blogging for Books and was ready to choose my next print copy to review. I found Food52: Baking with a scrumptious, tempting, glorious photo of brownies on its cover. I was pretty sure there was a chapter about cookies. So instead of ordering Mindy Kaling’s Why Not Me, I chose the baking book. (Read my review of Food52: Baking here.)
Chocolate chip cookies are regulars in our kitchen. But on Wednesday, I decided to try out the recipe of six-ingredient peanut butter and jelly sandwich cookies because all the ingredients are found in our pantry. We have so much peanut butter and strawberry jam, we can actually feed an army.
So I was out there in the kitchen and after two hours, produced these beauties:
My tester?
It’s actually my first time to post something about cooking/baking for my kids and I like it. I might do more of this in future posts.
If you don’t mind.
Happy Cookie Month! Here’s wishing that you have a cookie or two to munch on this fall season.
