LILOAN, CEBU – The Don Bosco Liloan Football Club is staging the Don Bosco Invitational Cup 2023 on August 5 to 6 in a bid to strengthen the sports culture in the Northern Cebu town of Liloan and encourage young players to improve on their skills.
More than 80 teams from all over Cebu Province will converge at the Don Bosco Boys’ Home Football Pitch in Barangay Cotcot, Liloan, Cebu for the two-day tilt.
The tournament is sanctioned by Central Visayas Football Association.
The football tournament is a fitting culmination to the 15-day summer clinic led by Junjun Pintuan, head coach of Don Bosco Liloan Football Club.
“With the growing number of young players attached to the football club, we are working on raising funds to sustain the program. We also organized this tournament so that our young ballers can be exposed to other playing techniques so they can gain confidence in playing the sport, ” said Pintuan.
The Coaches’ Meeting was held at Titay’s Liloan last July 29, 2023 to ensure the smooth flow of the tournament.
The coaches were joined by Lieutenant Rene Giganto of Philippine National Police Liloan along with tournament’s organizers and volunteers from the Municipality of Liloan.
The event is a 7-Aside Tournament which include U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, and Men’s Open under the boys’ category, while girls’ teams can participate in U13, U15, U19, and Ladies Open.
It is supported by Don Bosco Boys’ Home.
“A tournament like this is always a good avenue to emphasize to the children that it is not all about winning. Rather, it is about the development of the full person… for them to learn the right values and attitudes in dealing with their fellow players which they carry on in their day-to-day life, ” said Don Bosco Boys’ Home Liloan sports coordinator Fr. Fernando V. Peralta, SDB.
