I’m a pretty old fashioned kind of guy.
I collect comic books, totally devoted to my wife and family and yes, I cook a pretty mean pot of homemade spaghetti sauce with hand rolled meatballs.
It was this way when I was growing up. My Mom, who had maids and butlers all throughout her life, couldn’t boil water when she got married and self-taught herself recipes that today I prepare for our family. When I was growing up, we almost never – ever – went to a restaurant. Fast food was forbidden unless we were planning on sailing to taking it to go as we sail to an exotic South Sea island and would be marooned there. I just think that my parents were pretty wise for not indulging us with fast, crappy food.
So here at Casa Ruffolo, I do about 85% of all cooking, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Today for breakfast I made very thin crepe pancakes with fresh honey and two strips of bacon for each of my loves: for Cris and for the twins. Lunch was the tried and true cheeseburger. For dinner, it was a soft steak, cut into very small pieces and marinated in teriyaki sauce with one whole chopped red onion; a head of broccoli (steamed to perfection) and homemade mashed potatoes.
It is my intent to spend the majority of my remaining days in the kitchen cooking for my family. We will sit around the table and enjoy each other’s company while eating freshly prepared meals.
So, think about it. Do you really want that Big Mac or isn’t it a bit more important that you take the time to actually cook a wholesome homemade meal for your family?
Just think about all of the time that your children will be able to spend with you without a keyboard or TV remote control in someone’s hands; where you actually have to speak with someone?
Oh the joy!
There is nothing better to create harmony and family unity than starting your little kids out with a homemade cooking each and every day.
You may burn the toast on occasion … but no one is perfect!
