Book Review: Salute to all Mamas (The Berenstain Bears: Mother’s Day Blessings)

This book arrived in our mailbox and immediately gave me that special May feeling brought about by the fact that I’m the mother to three cubs, er, children.

In Mother’s Day Blessings, the new addition to The  Berenstain Bear series, author Mike Berenstain presented he many different faces of mothers in our society.

I previously wrote about putting an end to Mommy Wars or the infamous issue about which Mom camp — the stay-at-home  Moms or the work-outside-the-home Mom — has sacrificed (or is sacrificing) more in order to raise their families. I call for the end of this Mommy War because we, mothers, are facing so many challenges already and the last thing we need is another mother telling us that we’re not doing enough to ensure that our children grow up to be productive and decent individuals.

This book shows just that; that mothers come in different shapes, sizes, and professions. All mothers are special because they spend major parts of their lives taking care of their husbands and children and making sure that their needs are met.

As a faith-based storybook, The Berenstain Bears showcases a model family who love and value each other. I like the fact that it does not hard sell faith or Christian values. It simply shows faith and values in the storyline.

I particularly like the mini-tour that the Berenstain Bears took around their town as Mama showed the cubs the different faces of motherhood and how their loved one show their appreciation to them.

I read this book on a Saturday night after I tucked my twin toddlers to bed and it made me really grateful for having been gifted the opportunity to be a mother to three children, who have made me realize how much love my little heart can give.

Now, I can’t wait for Mother’s Day.
